General Information About Ons Huisie
Ons Huisie, which directly translates to “Our Small Home”, is an internationally recognised heritage site in Bloubergstrand now accommodating a world renowned and recognised traditional restaurant. Photographs of the historic owners stretching over more than 130 years can be seen in this wonderfully restored historic building which serves delicious West Coast cuisine. Ons Huisie stands silent witness to many historical events, including the Battle of Blaauwberg in 1806 overlooking Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 28 years. Ons Huisie is period decorated with many old photographs supplied by resident Blouberg families, showing the transformation of the area over the last 200 years.
The ever popular Ons Huisie is part of the Seascape Collection and boasts spectacular views, delicious, traditional West Coast cuisine, dog friendly facilities and picture perfect views of the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island. It is recognised as one of the tourist destinations in the Cape Peninsula. Visitors come from across the world and experience our exquisite West Coast cuisine. They always come back for our fish and chips, calamari and mussel pots which are signature dishes.
Ons Huisie has a large children’s playground. Parents have total peace of mind here in that they can enjoy a light lunch with friends while the kids are entertained in a safe, playful area with child-minders on hand.
Our stoep, with a cosy fire place, is the perfect setting to watch the sun go down over the Atlantic while enjoying one of our unique cocktails or something from our craft beer selection.

The restaurant has been in uninterrupted operation for over 56 years and displays the same values, drive and professionalism that secured our pristine reputation. These standards are still exuded by all our staff members, who will do their utmost to attend to your every desire.
Seating on the brand new terrace allows guests to dine al fresco during summer months and in winter come and enjoy the warm roaring Venetian fire place. The newest addition to On the Rock’s offerings is the Seaside Coffee Hatch, offering speciality coffees and delectable pastries from 7am every day, to the cyclists, runners and leisurely strollers of the Bloubergstrand community.

We specialize in French High Tea’s, Baby Showers, Birthdays, Intimate Weddings and year end functions. Weltevreden is a magnificent historic homestead in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, the 18th century residence is set in Welgevonden Boulevard, at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountain. The Retief Residence, and function venue boasts world-renowned works of art combined with historical Cape Dutch architecture. The grounds include formal walled gardens, a wedding venue and a restaurant, as well as a children’s adventure playground making Weltevreden Estate the perfect family day out.
